As so many other fans, I saw the latest instalment of the Harry Potter movie series. HP and the HBP was very good, however, as a die-hard fan of the books, I must say there were two little disappointments for me.
I did not like the way the movie changed how Dumbledore comes to get Harry in the muggle world at the beginning, and I did not like the way they changed how Dumbledore keeps Harry away from the invaders and Draco Malfoy when they invade the tower.
In the first case, there is no way the Harry would be reading a newspaper from the magic world in plain view of anyone in the muggle world. Harry is more subtle and smart than that. I wish they hadn't eliminated the Dursleys again from this movie. I think they are a very important part of the whole story.
In the last case, in the book, Dumbledore, in order to protect Harry from danger and being seen by the enemy, he 'freezes' him while ensuring he is out of sight. There is a very good reason for this: Harry would never stand still if Dumbledore was going to be attacked or harmed in any way, and knowing this, Dumbledore makes sure Harry can't do anything. That is why, in the movie, it does not make sense that Harry would just stay below while witnessing what was going on above him. Further, in the movie, Snape goes right where Harry is hiding, and signs to him to keep quiet. Then Snape joins the group of attackers above. Harry does not trust Snape, and believes he is one of the Death Eaters, so why would Harry trust him now?
Now, don't get me wrong. I do differentiate between the screen and the book versions of the series. I do watch the movies without comparing the actions to the book. How else could I enjoy them? When the story deviates too much from the story, however, then that gets to me.
There you are. That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.
