Party Weekend done!

OK, so another party came and went. Yep, I planned two big parties this holiday weekend. A surprise graduation party for my son, and a 60th birthday party for my sister-in-law, who is now the matriarch of my husband's family.

Susan, is the oldest of 12 siblings, and a great person and friend. She was the first one I was introduced to when I started dating my husband. He had brought me to his parents' house to meet them, but Susan was there at the time alone. She had stopped by to do her laundry. She was, and still is, the mother of two lovely daughters. I liked her right away.

Susan is just one of those people who is available for everyone. She has been our moral support numerous times, through happy and difficult times, like the time Gerry almost died from a rare blood disorder.

She is funny, a straight shooter, and honest about her feelings. I like that.

It was a true pleasure to plan and do this for her. I was glad that Francine, Jose, John, and Julie were able to make this party. They came with their children, and one of Susan's daughters was able to make it. Her other daughter really wanted to be there, but one of her own daughters was going through a dance competition.

Jacques, Susan's husband however, made the day. I had asked the poor man to do a short presentation for her only the night before. I was not able to ask him earlier because Susan and Jacques are inseparable since Susan retired from her full time job two years ago. It was difficult to call or write him without raising suspiscion from Susan.

He thanked her beautifully and originally for the 25 years they've known each other. Well, needless to say, this brought many, many tears to our eyes, and I was not able to finish my speech afterward.

I'm so happy I was able to do this. A great, big thank you to Gerry and my sons who helped me prepare the house to receive the guests. I'm also happy that I took an extra day off after today to recuperate, because, honestly, I'm tired. Oof!
