Graduation Party

After months of planning a surprise graduation party for my youngest son, who is graduating from high school this coming June, the day came and went in a wink.

It was a really nice day! The aunts, uncles and cousins came, and so did my son's friends, and a few of ours. As I looked across the room, I realized how these young men have known each other for many years. One particular friend who attended the party, has been in and out of our house as a guest since they were both in kindergarten.

It was so beautiful to see his dad give a loving speech about his youngest, and then he brought out his graduation gift, which made my son look like he was choking back a strong emotion. Then, one of his friends, from acting school, said some really mature, great things about their friendship. The moment continued when my oldest son talked about their own relationship, and how great they always have been as brothers. This brought tears to my eyes.

As for my turn, since my Italian background makes too emotional about things like family, children and love, I put a nice presentation together for him. The music and pictures, reminescent of his seventeen years, pulled tears out of a few aunts. Of course, as soon as I saw them cry, I had problems continuing with my speech. So, I cut it short, but I did manage to convey my message of pride and love.

Now, on to the graduation ceremony at the beginning of June, and more money spent on his graduation ball. But, you know what? It is all worth it. I'm very proud of my son, as I am of my other one. They both have their feet planted firmly on the ground.
